【Natsumatsuri】One of the most famous summer events in Japan!!

Hello everyone. I’m Tokutoku.

I’ll introduce "Natsumatsuri" or summer festival in Japan.

It’s normally held in summer time and usually starts around 5 or 6 in the evening and is held until midnight.

I'm from Osaka, the second largest prefecture in Japan with one of the most famous and largest summer festivals called "Tenjin-Matsuri".

The festival held on July 25th collects 1.3million people.

So streets of this area becomes so busy specially at the time fireworks started.

Probably you know "Kimono", right?

This is a summer version of kimono called "Yukata".

People used to wear it as pajamas after shower in the ancient period in japan but now many girls like to wear it at summer festivals.

Once you’ve stepped into a summer festival zone, you will find an array of various stalls.

There are literally hundreds of stalls such as Japanese authentic foods, candy shops and gaming spots for kids. Of course for adults too.

Today, I picked up one game for introducing. This one called "Yoyo-sukui", a fishing balloons game. It’s not too much to say that the game represents every summer festival and everybody in Japan knows it.

As you can see on the picture here, balloons are floating on the water in a small pool.

This is a fishhook connected with a tissue paper string and these balloons have a small amount of water inside for sinkers.

I think you could guess what a trick in this game is…yes, you should keep your fishhook’ s paper string dry as much as possible or it’s gonna break for you to get nothing.

Japan’s summer is really hot and humid even in the night. So much so that our ancient created an amazing way to change a muggy night into a refreshing and amusing night.

Oh and believe it or not, it’s allowed in Japan to drink on streets and summer festival zone!

If you have a chance to come to Japan in summer, please have a big fun and try a fishing balloons game!

Thank you so much for reading.
